Dr. Ruth Namie

Ruth Namie has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Her three-part professional career began in management. She was Corporate Training Director for two Sheraton Hotels in Hawaii.

During and after her clinical training, Dr. Namie spent several years helping individuals and families grappling with various forms of chemical dependency. Dr. Namie is not currently a licensed psychologist, nor does she now practice psychology.

Life changed in 1996 when she was trampled by a horrific woman boss inside a psychiatry department, part of a large HMO. The couple's subsequent fight for justice led to their 1998 founding of the Campaign Against Workplace Bullying, bringing the international adult anti-bullying movement to America.

Phase 3, the post-bullying period which runs to the present, led her to focus on helping bullied individuals. Since 1998, she has coached thousands of bullied individuals, both women and men. Lessons from targets, coupled with her business experience and academic training, make Dr. Ruth Namie an expert in Work Trauma, the effects of repeated, unremitting bullying and humiliation.

Dr. Ruth Namie co-designed the Blueprint for a Bullying-Free Workplace, Work Doctor's comprehensive solution to bullying in organizations.

The Drs. Namie In 2001, the Campaign became the nonprofit Workplace Bullying Institute with offices moved to Bellingham, Washington. It is now simply called the Workplace Bullying Institute (WBI). WBI is incorporated in Washington state and has applied for tax-exempt public charity status.
