WBI Research Begins With You

Your responses to the questions contribute to knowledge about Workplace Bullying. We've been collecting data and interpreting findings since 1998.

Study 1 recruitment -- Bullied Targets

I am conducting dissertation research on workplace bullying. The purpose of this study is to learn about individuals' experiences with workplace bullying. Workplace bullying is a term that covers many different types of workplace issues of abuse. You are being asked to participate in this study as someone who identifies yourself as a victim of workplace bullying. As someone who has lived through an experience of workplace bullying, you have witnessed firsthand what that can mean. I am interested to know how your experience with workplace bullying affected your daily life. I am interested in what your experience has meant to you in all areas of your life and what you did to deal with the workplace bullying. I would like a chance to speak to you about the study and to see if you are interested in participating.

If you would like to learn more about this study, please contact me at edsall (at) nova.edu. Thank you for your interest. I look forward to speaking with you.

Study 2 recruitment -- University/College Faculty Members, Current or Former

As a doctoral student of Conflict Analysis and Resolution at Nova Southeastern University, I am currently working on my dissertation research. Specifically, I am interested in learning how university faculty members cope with their experience of being a target of a workplace bully. The criteria for participating in my study are that you are a faculty member (current or former) who has been a target of workplace bullying.

If you accept my invitation to participate, I will first interview you and ask questions about your experience of being bullied, what actions you took in response to the bullying behavior, how the university leaders' responses to reports of being bullied influenced your coping strategy, and how you are currently dealing with your experience of workplace bullying. I anticipate the interviews will last between one and two hours. It is possible that I may need to conduct a follow-up interview that may last up to one hour.

The interviews will be audio-taped. I will identify each tape by using a pseudonym. The interviews are strictly confidential, and I will provide you with a copy of the final report before it is published. Interviews will be conducted either face-to-face or telephonically. Face-to-face interviews will take place at a location chosen by the participant, so the risk of eavesdropping is minimal. Telephonic interviews will be conducted from my home to maximize privacy.

If you would like to participate, or if you would like more information, please contact me at lavena (at) nova.edu.

Thank you,
LaVena Wilkin
