WBI University

The seventh small group training: April 16-17-18, 2010 in Bellingham WA

The Workplace Bullying Institute invites you to join us in a creative and unique training experience. Spend three intensive days with Dr. Gary and Dr. Ruth Namie, co-founders of the Workplace Bullying Institute (WBI.)

In this personal immersion, small group, program you will receive graduate-level knowledge of the workplace bullying phenomenon. Gary and Ruth Namie are the best qualified to teach Workplace Bullying because their work includes: advising and coaching targeted individuals AND conducting research AND interpreting the research of others AND writing popular books AND writing for scientific journals AND being interviewed for over 850 media stories and broadcasts AND directing the state-by-state legislative campaign for the anti-bullying Healthy Workplace Bill in the U.S. AND delivering professional speeches AND bringing doctoral level training in psychology (clinical and social) AND serving as an expert witness in court cases AND training union stewards and reps and internal expert cadre teams AND creating policies and enforcement procedures for employers voluntarily tackling bullying. As a WBI University graduate, you absorb information from all of these perspectives.

You will learn to customize the components for your personal needs and upon completion of this course you will be authorized to deliver a presentation introducing Workplace Bullying to a variety of audiences — public or business groups using WBI materials, statistics, and our unique approach.

"I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate both your compassion, wisdom and inspiration. ÊVisiting with you two was truly awe-inspiring" -Pam B.

"Three of the most engaging days of learning that I can remember. We covered fascinating subject matter with a well-researched body of knowledge pertaining to every person who works in business. ...information, facts, and materials that would facilitate and expedite an week-long seminar or semester for higher education." -Carrie C.

"The mass of workers may not recognize what is being done for them, until they experience the exquisite suffering of being abused by an employer with no way to protect yourself. That is until you are lucky enough to find Dr. Gary Namie and Dr. Ruth Namie. They have the right combination of advanced degrees in clinical and social psychology and unique experience that landed them at the forefront of this cause in the US. The Namie's offer a knowledge tool that deflates the employers' intimidation bubble against mistreated workers." -Christine S.

"It was a privilege to be included in the first class and training session. I first became aware of the work of WBI after my own bullying experience in 1993. Since then I have been on an individual mission to address both the personal and corporate problems created by workplace bullying. With the WBI training and affiliation, I plan on expanding my advocacy work to include working on legislation in Wisconsin toward a Healthy Workplace Bill." -Monica W.

"I felt it, tasted it, and endured it without understanding that I had been a target until I found the Workplace Bullying Institute. I highly recommend this training for all persons interested in eliminating institutionalized and systemically sanctioned workforce bullying. It has been a life-changing experience for me." -Debbie M.

Gary Namie (Ph.D., Social Psychology) taught college over a 20-year span in several departments of psychology and management. He taught the nation's first university course on workplace bullying. He was also a corporate manager for two regional hospital systems. He was the expert witness in the nation's first "bullying" trial in Indiana, verdict upheld by the state supreme court.

Ruth Namie (Ph.D., Clinical Psychology) was Training Director for Sheraton Hotels before her clinical training led to counseling chemically dependent individuals and families. Ruth's personal experience was the impetus for the U.S. workplace bullying movement. She has become an expert on the devastating effects of bullying on targeted workers.

In 1997, they began the research and education organization that became the Workplace Bullying Institute based in Bellingham, Washington. They have authored two books (The Bully At Work, new June 2009 edition). WBI regularly conducts research, including the 2007 U.S. survey of bullying representing all adult Americans, the first large national project. They also write articles for peer-reviewed scientific journals and books.

They are the best-known individuals associated with bullying in the U.S., due in large part, to the eight public websites devoted to different aspects of education about bullying for individuals, lawmakers, unions, and employers.

As the U.S. pioneers, their work has been featured on the Today Show, Good Morning America, Early Show, Nightline, CNN, local TV news and in the New York Times, USA Today, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, Toronto Star, Ivey Business Journal, HR Executive, Globe and Mail, American Bar Association, and on Marketplace Radio, NPR and CBC radio.

Gary Namie directs a national network of State and Provincial Coordinators, acting as citizen lobbyists, who work to pass into law the WBI anti-bullying Healthy Workplace Bill. In 2009, 12 states and 2 provinces will carry some version of the legislation.

The Work Doctor® is an organizational consulting firm led by the Namies that focuses exclusively on the prevention of Workplace Bullying. The Work Doctor BlueprintTM is a comprehensive system that enables good employers to constrain unacceptable bullying behavior, change corporate culture, and become an industry leader. Both Canadian and U.S. employers have adopted the system.

The Namies' professional preparation, consulting experience and unwavering focus on Workplace Bullying give them an unrivaled, comprehensive perspective of the phenomenon which they introduced to the U.S.
