I have known Drs. Gary and Ruth Namie for over 20 years. We met in the summer of 2003; we were drawn together by a common concern for workplace bullying: They were and are key experts in the field of adult bullying at work in the USA. In the years we’ve known each other, Dr. Gary Namie and I have co-authored a number of pieces in books and peer-reviewed journals. We served as co-presenters at anti-bullying conferences, both nationally and internationally. In all my interactions, both professional and personal, I’ve found Dr. Namie to be a compassionate, deeply dedicated, and seasoned professional. Dr. Namie’s central professional purpose is (and has been) creating workplaces in which employees are safe from psychological abuse. When people speak the truth to power, as Dr. Namie has done his entire anti-bullying career, inevitably others disagree. When people are not safe at their jobs and both law and management turn a blind eye, we need dedicated people like Gary Namie. He speaks the truth to power, which should be honored and valued.
